From a leap into the unknown to customer advisory: Robbe’s story
For many young IT professionals, taking the step toward a first job feels like a big leap. For Robbe, it was no different. Today, he is part of the Resilient PROTECT team, where he helps build managed security services and increasingly advises customers on security topics.
His journey didn’t start directly in cybersecurity. “I first started studying industrial engineering, but eventually realized it wasn’t really my thing,” he explains. He then switched to Applied IT, where he developed a strong interest in electronics, automation and cloud security. During his studies, he eventually specialized in cybersecurity and cloud.
Through LinkedIn, he came into contact with Resilient Security. “I had posted that I was looking for a new challenge. Britt responded to that post, and that’s really how it all started.”
Just getting started
Resilient Security immediately became his first employer. “It was definitely a bit of a leap of faith,” Robbe says. “But at some point, you just have to start somewhere and gain experience.”
Those first months were mainly focused on discovering, learning and growing independently. “Because it’s a smaller team, you get responsibility quite quickly,” he explains. “In the beginning, it was sometimes a bit of a search, but that’s also how you learn a lot. You have to figure things out yourself, which helps you become independent much faster.”
Robbe initially focused mainly on SOC operations and internal development, but has since grown into customer projects and advisory work. “Today, I mainly work on Resilient PROTECT, our managed security service,” he explains. “At the same time, I’m increasingly involved in advisory roles for customers, which I really enjoy.”
Variety and impact
What does he enjoy most about the job? Mainly the combination of technical challenges and customer interaction. “Getting to know new environments, supporting different customers and successfully completing projects gives a lot of satisfaction,” he says. “Especially when customers give positive feedback.”
Although he is currently mainly focused on Protect, he doesn’t rule out evolving more towards identity security or IAM projects in the future. “That definitely interests me as well, but right now I still get a lot of satisfaction from helping build out the Protect story.”
Freedom to grow
According to Robbe, the culture at Resilient Security is one of the company’s biggest strengths. “You really get trust here,” he says. “If you show initiative and deliver good work, people genuinely listen to you. You get the freedom to bring your own ideas and take ownership.”
That freedom can sometimes create a bit of chaos, he laughs, but at the same time it creates enormous learning opportunities. “You learn quickly because you’re truly involved.”
He also takes a pragmatic view on AI. “You shouldn’t be afraid of it. AI is mainly an extra tool that helps us work faster and smarter, but I don’t believe it will fully replace people in security.”
Looking ahead
For now, Robbe feels completely at home in cybersecurity. “I want to continue growing in advisory and guide customers even more,” he explains. “And later on, I can definitely see myself coaching younger colleagues as well.”
